Snowstorm “Barbara” has hit Greece and severely disrupted the movement and trade of agricultural goods. To prevent accidents and traffic blocks the government strongly advise people to avoid unnecessary commuting while highways open and close according to weather conditions. Trucks and lorries are not permitted to drive through highways during night until Friday 10 February.

Agricultural markets have also been impacted. Fresh fruit and vegetables markets remain closed to prevent people from walking through slippery alleys. The market disruption is expected to continue for a week. The price of fresh local produce will increase as losses from frost cannot be avoided and supplies become limited. Furthermore, for the next 2 days (From 7 February 2023) the port of Piraeus will remain closed for all operation due to the weather conditions and a strike by the local workers union.
