Bolivia's highlands are experiencing a crop emergency resulting from unpredictable weather patterns and shifting climate conditions. The potato crop, in particular, is under significant threat due to the extreme heat in the country, where temperatures have reached as high as 45°C. The severe drought in Potosí has led to a one-third reduction in water flow, leaving farmers unable to irrigate their crops. Consequently, this has led to record-breaking winter temperatures in the Southern Hemisphere during Aug-23.
