Brazil has 12 more quarantine pests absent

The Ministry of Agriculture updated the list of missing quarantine pests for Brazil. Twelve pests absent in the country were incorporated and are now being regulated. Normative Instruction 85 came into force on Monday (1st).

The pests included are all of forest interest for the region and Brazil, with six beetles (Coleoptera), three moths (Lepidoptera), two wasps (Hymenoptera) and one psyllid (Hemiptera). Quarantine pests are those considered to have a major impact on agriculture. The mere presence can compromise exports or cause serious damage to plantations.

Absent quarantine pests have the potential to cause economic losses because they are not present in the national territory, considered exotic. The publication of the list is mandatory so that other nations and trading partners can be more clear about the actions that each one takes to prevent the introduction of pests, since phytosanitary measures must be taken for pests that are regulated.

The main kinds of plantations that can be affected by these plagues are: peach, Damascus, plum, pinus, eucalyptus, nuts and apple trees.
