Importers from Brazil, last week, purchased 63,500 tons of red winter durum wheat from the United States, bringing total purchases of US cereal this year to 419,800 tons, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The deal was confirmed in a report released by the government agency on Thursday is Brazil's second-largest wheat acquisition from the United States in 2020, just below a purchase of 69,000 tonnes of the variety - known as HRW - at the end of April.

In the previous week, Brazil had also purchased 62.1 thousand tons of the product from the USA, as the North Americans are benefiting from quotas without tariff this year.

In addition, 33.6 thousand tons of soft red winter wheat (SRW) were purchased at the beginning of the year, which contributes to the total movements of North American wheat in 2020 to reach 453.4 thousand tons.

The National Supply Company (Conab, initials in Portuguese) estimates that Brazil will import a record of 7.3 million tonnes of wheat this year from all sources, given the steady consumption of cereal derivatives (such as bread and pasta) amid the pandemic of coronavirus.
