Open-field melons and watermelons in Brazil face many challenges due to their fast-growing rate of 65 days from sowing harvest. Producers look for higher yields as these products sell per unit and not per kg. Over the past weeks, melon and watermelon production has shown fruits grading at least 75% bigger sizes but in less quantity. This causes a major impact on sales as the European Markets like a more diverse range of fruit sizes. Many Brazilian producers are hoping for good weather and are thinking to reduce fertilization to control the size of fruits.
