Minerva bought a Colombian slaughter plant, that belonged to Vijagual, based in Bucaramanga. The total investment was about USD 26 million.
The bovine processing plant has the capacity to slaughter and dismantle 700 heads/day and will double the volume of operations in Colombia in 2021.
Athena Foods is expected to start operating a plant as of September 1st, 2020.
With a herd larger than Australia of approximately 28 million heads of cattle, Colombia has enormous growth potential, especially in exports. The subsidiary, Athena Foods is already the leader in exports in that country and further consolidates its position with this acquisition.
