According to the banana producers’ association, in 2021, Cameroon produced 198,634 MT of fresh bananas, which were exported exclusively to EU countries by "la Compagnie fruitière," which has been enjoying the monopoly in this industry for more than a decade. This figure represents a 5.4% increase compared to the 187,884 MT produced in 2020. Yet, there is still a 301,000 MT gap to be bridged to meet the government's declared target of producing 500,000MT of bananas by 2030.
