The Cameroon government has just launched the distribution of a gross of $3.3 million representing cocoa quality incentives to farmers who grouped in cooperatives and sold quality beans during cocoa auction markets. Even though this amount represents incentives for two cocoa seasons (2018/19 and 2019/20), it displays a 300% increase compared to the $1.1 million distributed at the launch of the program in 2018. This initiative is already proving results: up until a few seasons ago, 98% of Cameroon cocoa beans were exported as “Fair Fermented” produce. However, according to FCC (Federation of Cocoa Commerce) rules, in the 2020/2021 cocoa season, 40% of country exports were “Good Fermented”. With the multiple quality improvement programs going on, it is certain that Cameroon origin quality will very soon be comparable to the Ghanaian premium standard.
