Can small-sized producers grow their sales volume by more than 400% in one year ?

The German company LIDL launched in Portugal in 2019 a project called “ Da Minha Terra,” whose primary purpose is to promote the sales of small Portuguese companies in Fruits and Vegetables, Bakeries, and charcuterie business. The project started with 35 small companies, chosen by a Lidl team, but had more than 70 candidates.

The chosen companies were able to sell their products to 265 LIDL supermarkets in Portugal and the LIDL supermarkets in 30 countries in Europe. LIDL has its own transport company, with more than 50 trucks, in Europe that take private label products every day, which allows the easy supply of this project.

The project got recognition from the Portuguese Government and Portugal Fresh and exported in 2019, EUR 150 million. In Portugal, LIDL Fruits and Vegetables increased by 30%. A small Portuguese lemon producer from the Algarve region sold in several supermarkets in Europe and registered an increase of 400% in 2019.
The results for 2020 are about to be announced in February 2022.
