The United Kingdom represents 67% of the total exports of tomato that grows in the Canary Islands. However, these figures might be in danger due to Brexit´s new scenario. Besides, a plague has entered the scene affecting 2.1 million Kgs of tomato and estimating production losses that can exceed 4 million Kgs. On top of that, a new sea route between the ports of Tangier and Poole has been announced for commercial connection between Morocco and the United Kingdom. In this way, the shipping times for Moroccan tomatoes are cut in half, which will take away market share from the Canarian product.
