Rainfall Impacts the Cassava Supply, Resulting in High Prices in 2023

The recent heavy rainfall had impacted the supply of cassava, leading to a further decrease in availability in the market during W25. The ex-farm price of fresh cassava remains stable at USD 0.078/kg, similar to W24. Although there is a consistent demand for cassava from Thailand, the supply is limited. This scarcity of supply is due to the reduced cassava production caused by drought conditions that have persisted since the beginning of 2023. Moreover, many farmers have switched to cultivating sugar cane, which has further contributed to the decreased supply of cassava in the market. As a result, the prices of cassava remain relatively high in 2023.
