Central American countries facing a decrease in melon and watermelon demand for 2022 pre-season.

As stated in the previous local insight, melon and watermelon season in Costa Rica starts with less planting area than last years. But the demand for Honduras products demand is also heavily decreased for the 2022 season. Dutch importers declare that the demand for Honduras products shrank from 40% to 50% of their normal volume due to salmonella outbreaks in melon batches from Honduras in the 2020-2021 season.
