The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that it has just received Chilean notice on the establishment of phytosanitary requirements for fresh grapefruit (Citrus maxima) from Vietnam, effective on October 14.

The consignment exported to Chile must have the plant quarantine certificate issued by the competent plant quarantine agency of Vietnam. In addition, the consignment must be treated with 150 Gy irradiation to control pests such as Bactrocera cucurbitae, Bactrocera dorsalis, which are confirmed in the phytosanitary certificate.

Previously, Chile opened the market to Vietnamese dragon fruit and also required the shipment to be irradiated and issued an export certificate. SPS Vietnam Office has sent a document to the Plant Protection Department, the Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development Department, and the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association to request to study the above announcement for adaptive solutions, as well as inform relevant agencies and businesses to implement.
