Harsh rainfall in January, is taking a toll on export prices of dried prunes from Chile. Several exporters of Chilean prunes coincide that overall production volumes are expected to drop from a regular 60,000 or 70,000 MTs to 35,000 MTs this this year. Not only are volumes low, but also prices are high; in order to keep various smaller producers in business, the vast majority of prune exporters have decided to increase their pricing so it will be common to see regular Chilean prunes going for $ 3.5 -4.0 per kg.
