As of Sep-23, Chilean coho salmon exports reached over 112 thousand tons, marking an 8% year-on-year (YoY) increase. Coho salmon accounted for 21% of total salmonid exports in 2023 and is traditionally traded during the first and last quarters of each year. Notably, larger quantities were offered in off-season months, particularly from May to July, focusing on frozen products. The primary export destinations for coho salmon include Japan (49%), Vietnam (8%), Brazil (7%), and the USA (6%). Japan's share in the coho salmon trade has significantly declined from 72% in previous years, as preferences shifted to other markets like Vietnam and Brazil.
