The commercial agreement between Brazil and China regarding the acceptance of Brazilian melon in China was finalized in November of 2019, and finally the first cargo of Santa Claus (or Piel de sapo) melon weighting 3.5 MT have arrived on September 18th in Shanghai airport, starting new possibilities for the Brazilian melon producers.
The Chinese market absorbs around half the global production of melon in the world and Brazilian producers expects to double their sales and gain at least 1% of their market share. The great advantage of Brazilian melon is that the high harvest season is during the Chinese low season for this fruit.
