At the end of December, China announced that it will suspend pork imports from a unit located in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), the sole reason for the suspension is the contamination of meat by covid-19. The entity works together with MAPA and the cooperative to provide clarifications and reverse the decision. The suspension period was not disclosed. Ever since the pandemic began, China has suspended imports of 11 meatpackers and 1 fish unit from Brazil. This is due to the concerns raised about the transmission of the virus. In some cases, China claimed that they found traces of the disease in proteins, as in the case of chicken wings in August 2020. Out of 11 restrictions, six have already been normalized and the imports have resumed.
