China's fresh durian import increased

China’s fresh durian imports increased significantly in 2021, reaching a value of USD 4.21 billion and a volume of 822,000 MT, corresponding to year-on-year increases of 82.4% and 42.7%, respectively. China currently only allows durian imports from Thailand and Malaysia, while negotiations with Vietnam and the Philippines are underway. The Phnom Penh Post has reported that Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries intends to export durians to China and will soon assess the necessary phytosanitary requirements.
