During the typical March to April period, Vietnamese consumers usually have more choices of Egyptian mandarins. However, in 2024, due to challenging transportation conditions from Egypt to Vietnam, only a few Egyptian mandarins of good quality arrived. Many wholesalers believe that mandarins cannot endure long transportation times, so when Egyptian mandarins arrive in Vietnam after approximately 50 days, their quality has significantly deteriorated. As a result, many importers are opting for Chinese mandarins instead. Chinese mandarins are preferred due to their shorter shipping time and superior quality, gaining more popularity each year. In W16, Chinese mandarins are priced between USD 12 to 14 per 6-kilogram (kg) box at wholesale markets in Vietnam, showing an increase of about USD 1 compared to the prices in W15.
