Chinese tariffs on Australian barley increasing global prices

China's 80.5% tariffs on Australian barley imports have caused increased demand from around the world and moved prices upwards. China has increased imports from Argentina, Canada, France, and Ukraine. Purchases from Canada alone have doubled from last year and 80% of exported Canadian barley is currently headed to China. While barley prices in these countries have increased, Australia has seen domestic prices fall by 10% as their primary market dried up and the country experienced a bumper crop.
