The sea urchin season in Northern Chile is ending earlier than expected due to early spawning. The season usually starts in March and lasts until the end of October, but this year the season came early due to the interference of cold weather and frosts in the reproductive cycle of sea urchins. This forced the Chilean authority to declare the season closed in Northern Chile at the beginning of September. Forecasts indicate the season will continue until the end of October in Southern Chile.
