The owner and CEO of one of the biggest Colombian Exotic Fruit Exporters stated that the company has made foreign investment, mainly in Ecuador and Perú.
In Ecuador, its goal is to obtain Global Gap Certified Yellow Dragon Fruit from the Palora region in association with local growers. Given the environmental conditions and heavy rains in this region, Global Gap Certification is difficult to obtain. Once the company ensecures bigger volume, it will be able to enter markets in which the demands and prices are higher such as the USA and the EU.
In Perú the investments are mainly made in the Lambayeque region and focused on purple passion fruit. The company is expecting to grow the fruits in a much drier region and use less pesticides which are used in Colombia due to rains.
