For some of the importers that usually use Barranquilla as their standard port, the shipping process of garlic is delayed. It takes as much as 15 days, according to one of the biggest importers. Some of them have made the decision to unload garlic in Cartagena and load trucks with containers to go to Barranquilla. Others are considering to import some garlic from Perú because of the shorter transit time compared to China.

Around 65% of all the 2021 garlic imports in Colombia had entered the country through two major ports; Cartagena (36%) and Barranquilla (29%). Most of the shipping lines are using the same service in these two ports because they are adjacent to each other, about 134 km away. China is the origin of 98% of total garlic imports in Colombia during the first eight months in 2021.
