The US demands on Canadian chickpeas continued. Canadian markets remain active, which causes Canada’s chickpea exports to increase in the 2021-22 season. According to the latest estimates, exports are expected to increase by 15k/mt compared to the previous season in 2021, reaching 170k/mt. This caused Canadian chickpea stocks to decline from 275k/mt to 150k/mt. The US, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates are the main Canadian chickpea importing countries.
Farmers in Canada are also currently willing to sell. However, they don’t want to give at low levels. It does not seem very likely that prices will decrease as the demands continue. In Mexico, the sellers are cautious about offers due to ongoing logistics problems. Due to the uncertainty of the freights, the offers do not form a clear level.
According to some reports, Hapag will start its routes again. This may be expected to cause a slight decrease in prices.
In Russia, offers continue to arrive on a limited basis, as stocks are greatly reduced. As the ruble maintains its value against the dollar, farmer prices continue to increase. It is too early for planting areas and production estimates for now, as new crops have just started to be planted.
