Since November 2022, the price of imported kiwis in the Japanese wholesale market has been lower than usual. Kiwi's domestic average wholesale price on December 1, 2022, was USD 5.05/kg, a 19% decrease from the same day in 2021. Most of the imported kiwi in Japan were from New Zealand. Therefore, this pricing may almost immediately predict a decline in the price of the New Zealand kiwi. A decrease in demand is the cause of the price drop. According to wholesale market PIC, prices and demand are decreasing for several imported fruits. It is also mostly due to the depreciation of the yen. Prices are falling due to the abundant domestic mandarin orange harvest. It appears that many individuals are switching to cheaper mandarin oranges.
