In 2015, Dow Chemical from the USA and Mitsui from Japan entered in a joint-venture to acquire the 'Usina Santa Vitória Açúcar e Álcool' in Brazil aiming at the production of green plastics, from the conversion of ethanol produced into ethylene, thus supplying Dow's production of bioplastics in Brazil.
However, the change in the economic scenario changed the plans of both companies. Mitsui sold its share of the business to Dow at the end of the same year. And five years later Dow decided to leave the business, selling it to Geriba Group on Sep 26, 2020.
'Santa Vitória' mill counts with one of the most modern and automated industrial parks on the market, with approximately 210 hectares and more than 40 thousand hectares of cane fields, and has a capacity to grind 2.7 million tons of cane and produce more than 240 million liters of hydrated ethanol per harvest.
