Dried tomatoes from Torbali, Izmir are exported to many countries

Dried tomatoes from the Torbali district of Izmir are exported to 60 countries, including the United States and Japan. The tomatoes are dried for 1 week after harvest and the district produces 95% of Turkey's dried tomato. The annual tomato production yield in the district is around 400 KMT and the sale price of dried tomatoes is around 3.5 USD per kg. The farm gate sale price of fresh tomatoes, on the other hand, is only around 0.05 USD per kg. It takes nearly 14 kg of fresh tomatoes to produce 1 kg of dried tomatoes.
