The Northeast of Brazil is the largest producer of cashew nuts in Brazil. Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) has been investing in Plant Breeding of cashew clones. The main objective is to increase productivity and decrease the size of the plants to facilitate the harvest. The variety "anão precoce" (precocious dwarf) has been standing out with a productivity of 226 kg of nuts/hectare. This variety also stands out because it can withstand long periods of drought. These characteristics increase cashew cultivation in the semi-arid region, through family agriculture.
