Dubai generated around US$ 1 billion in coffee sales in the last 10 years alone. The data is from Dubai customs, published by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) last week.
In the published number, grain exports are included. It is mentioned in the report that Dubai functions as a global logistics center without a coffee segment, and connects the main coffee producers with their buying markets.
In the first half of this year, the coffee trade in Dubai grew by 5% (USD 69 million) in comparison with the first half of last year (when around USD 65 million were handled). In volume, the amount increased from 14 thousand tons.
The main coffee suppliers to Dubai are Switzerland (US$ 9 million), Italy (US$ 6.2 million) and Brazil (US$5.9 million), and the main importers are Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
