The Taiwanese government has banned the import of live birds and hatching eggs from the UK after a confirmed outbreak of H5N6 strain. The farm was near Frodsham and had 13,500 birds subjected to slaughter. Taiwan is also preparing to face an outbreak of Avian Influenza due to migratory birds flying over the country towards the Southern Hemisphere.
Meanwhile, South Korea has also banned the import of poultry products from the United Kingdom, but the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture has made reference to the H5N8 strain, different from that one cited by Taiwan (H5N6). The local health authorities have already reinforced biosecurity measures by carrying out specific tests on imports of poultry and poultry products. The authorities are with a view to the spread of the influenza virus in Germany, the Netherlands, Israel and Russia.
