Avocado popularity around the world seems to be growing steadily, and its consumption is even expected to double in Italy. Some countries including the Netherlands and Australia, however, have noticed an excess supply that has sometimes affected prices and as a result, disposed of a certain volume of avocados as a result. Despite this situation, Australia expects to double its production by 2026, and Spain expects a 20% larger harvest this year compared to 2020.

The situation in the avocado market is very difficult at the moment, according to a Dutch importer. He blames the situation on oversupply from Israel and Colombia, combined with the traditional difficulty for retail sales in December, as this is when store space is freed up for other items. In many European countries, hotels and restaurants are closed and many importers are dealing with an abundance of stocks, difficult sales and low prices.
