Electronic auction promotes the best specialty coffees in Peru

A total of 184 samples of specialty coffees from 10 producing regions in Peru participated in the Cup of Excellence Peru 2020 that began in September. The process selected the best Peruvian coffee and the most outstanding producer of the year. After an arduous evaluation by national and international judges, 24 coffees were selected, from Cusco, Puno, Cajamarca, Pasco, Huánuco and Junin regions, with scores from 87 to 90 points.

The competition seeks and rewards the best coffees in each country, which were auctioned by the electronic platform Platform National Promotion of Coffee.

The winner of the Peru Cup of Excellence 2020, exceeded the expectations of the competition organizers by obtaining US $ 42,752.47 for a total of 380.84 kg. This figure was higher than the prices achieved in 2018 and 2019, which raised US $ 37,000 and US $ 23,000, respectively. In total, the 24 auctioned coffees obtained more than US $ 293,000.

The companies that participated in the auction where from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, China, France, Kuwait, Romania and Italy.

The micro lots of the auctioned coffees are already packed for shipmet with the brand Cafés del Perú "Unique Specialties" granted by PromPerú. The export of these coffees is an excellent promotion strategy for Peruvian coffee.
