Currently, Ethiopia is producing honey below its potential, where even though the country could harvest 500K tons of honey, it is harvesting not more than 60K tons of honey annually. The country also has the potential to harvest up to 50K tons of beeswax but the country is harvesting below 10K tons of beeswax annually.
In order to expand Ethiopia's potential for honey and honey related products, the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategies and the ongoing comprehensive forest rehabilitation are being implemented within the bee-keeping sector.
