Ethiopia produces various cereals, grains and pulses for both domestic consumption and export to international markets. The Ethiopian farming system is primarily rain fed with small patches of irrigated developments in some regions of the country. Accordingly, the long rainy season known as Kiremt, which stretches from June to September, is the peak ploughing and planting period in the majority of rural Ethiopia. Hence, during August 2022 almost all farmers are engaging in the ploughing and planting activities of various grains, cereals and pulses in preparation for the following harvest.
