The Ethiopian government initiated bulk production of wheat through the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACC) program, targeting around 1.3 million farmers organized in 30,000 clusters across the irrigable lands of Ethiopia. The bold move by the Ethiopian government is starting to pay dividends as wheat farmers are reporting that the program is resulting in higher yields, which positively contributes to the livelihoods of farmers and result in higher food security for Ethiopia. Higher yields also makes the country less reliant on imported wheat grains which in turn keeps foreign currency reserves within Ethiopia.
