Following the lifting of the catching restriction on September 1, the Marmara Sea off the coast of Turkey is currently experiencing an exceptional abundance of anchovies. In W36, 747 metric tons (mt) of anchovies were caught, a substantial increase from 2022's figure of 416 mt. This significant twofold increase in the anchovy catch underscores the favorable conditions for anchovy fishing this season, which is poised to have noteworthy implications for the seafood industry and local markets. Consequently, the price of anchovies has declined from the previous range of USD 2.98/kg to USD 3.72/kg to a more affordable USD 1.86 to USD 2.61/kg in W36.
