The Indian shrimp industry has been witnessing falling demand and low prices in the global market since the start of 2023. This has led shrimp exporters and farmers to explore other opportunities in the local industry. With a population of more than 1.3 billion, with more than 50% having a non-vegetarian diet, the local Indian market has immense potential. Many exporters and farmers in the recently concluded World Food India Expo in New Delhi showed interest in the shrimp industry. With new brands entering the market, there is potential for organized shrimp supply chain growth across Indian states.
