The first week of December did not differ much from November. However, the demand for Hass avocados has started to increase as of W50. This is mainly due to Chile shipping less and more efficiently to Europe during the holiday season, as well as the numerous promotions organised by supermarkets for the end-of-year festivities, which has sped up stock rotation. Even for baby avocados, there is a growing demand.
For the month of December and thereafter for the entire year 2022, supply will remain moderate and below levels seen in the 2021/22 season. Currently, Chilean exporters are much more focused on the domestic market, which pays USD 3.8/kg, significantly higher than prices in the EU market. Despite this, Chile is still the most important origin in Europe for 2022.
Currently, Mexico is still not a significant avocado exporter, and only Colombia and Israel continue to regularly ship their product to the EU. In this sense, the supply and consumption of this fruit will begin to focus more on the Mediterranean countries than on the overseas ones, and the lack of production in Spain and the slowness of Morocco will create a stable market for this fruit until 2022.
