The fire that broke out in Oleiros last month (July28th) have affected several hundred small farmers in Sertã, causing many losses for small farmers. It is estimated that the damage impacted on two million euros for the region.

The mayor calls on the Ministry of Agriculture to define guidelines and instructions so that it is possible to proceed with the survey of the losses, assuming that the value is likely to be two million euros.

The president also requests that the defined support mechanism needs to be flexible and that takes into account the local reality, where family farming predominates.

If the farmers need to be collected, they won't even ask for any compensation. These are elderly people, who do not even have 100 or 200 euros to pay for the medicines, said the mayor.

According to him, about five thousand hectares burned in the municipality.
