World-first climate change-resistant apples will be grown in Australia after trials in Spain. It took researchers 18 years to develop the new apple variety which can keep its red skin in hot temperatures.
The new apple is in the Australian quarantine and could be grown in the oceanic island by 2021. The apple, known as HOT84A1, has been bred to withstand the world's hottest and driest conditions and is the result of 18 years' work between researchers in Spain and New Zealand.
