Myanmar is facing a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Most of the event activities including eateries, restaurants and other hospitality sectors remain closed to follow the norms of social distancing. This has severely impacted the demand for green chillis. As the demand falls, local traders and brokers have stopped buying and reselling chilli from the farmers. The lack of demand has exerted downward pressure on the local wholesale price of green chilli. The price recently decreased from MMK 1200 per viss to MMK 600.
