Octopus, along with Atlantic cod, is in high demand in the Portuguese market, particularly during the Christmas season in northern Portugal. The demand for octopus increased significantly in November, mainly for large-sized octopus. However, most of the fresh octopus from the Portuguese coast that arrives at auctions is relatively small in size, including sizes T4 (1.5–2 kg), T5 (1.2–1.5 kg), and T6 (0.8–1.2 kg). Large sizes ranging from T1 to T3, weighing 2-4 kg or more, are in high demand but scarce, thus buyers are looking for them in other origin markets, such as Morocco or Mauritania.
