Since the start of COVID-19, New Zealand has faced a labor shortage affecting the fruit industry. In December 2022, the outlook in the short term looks better, and producers are confident they have enough staff for Kiwifruit production as locals are returning to work and seasonal workers are available. Most producers are comfortable with their situation as they have enough people on waiting lists to work in their fields.
