The German Ministry of Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection confirmed on Thursday, 10th, the record of a case of African swine fever in Brandenburg, in the east of the country.
On Wednesday, 9th, the folder announced that there was a suspicious case. The Berlin-Brandenburg State Laboratory suspected a boar carcass that was found a few kilometers from the border between Germany and Poland, in the Spree-Neisse district. Confirmation came this Thursday.
The ministry stated that the disease is not contagious to humans and that pork consumption is safe.
The news stirred corn prices on the Chicago Stock Exchange on Thursday. Contracts have reached their highest levels since March following developments in Germany, which is the main pork producer in the European Union.
