The Ghana Rice Inter professional Body (GRIB) warned that there will be shortages of domestically produced rice in the country in Q1 of 2023. Local demand for rice in 2021 was 1.4MMT and domestic production capacity stood at a little over 900,000MT. GRIB expects a decline in available volumes in 2023 due to high prices of inorganic fertilisers, which deterred farmers from cultivating rice in the 2022 August/September planting season.
