Ghana’s Pineapple Processors Are Unable to Meet Export Demands Due to the Rising Cost of Pineapples

Pineapple juice concentrate processors in Ghana have bemoaned the high cost of pineapple in the domestic market for the inability to process the crop into juice concentrate for the international market. Currently, in W42, the price for MD2 pineapple stands at USD 6.5/13kg box. As a result of this development, some processors prefer buyers of the juice concentrate to provide their pineapples so they can process them and make payments for toll processing. The current 27% upward adjustment in utility costs and many other operational costs also make it difficult for processors to break even.
