Ginger demand worlwide increased during the first semester 2020

Ginger imports worldwide have increased during the first semester 2020 since to consumers change of habits. The Netherlands and the US are still the most important markets, and Peru stood out as an exporter to these destinations.

During this period, ginger imports totaled US $ 467 million (19.3 increase compared with 2019). Netherlands imported 18% of the total volume and the US 17.1%.

Regarding Netherlands, total imports were US $ 84 million (+60.9% more than in 2019). China was the main supplier with 75.8% share, while Peru was the second with 8.7% share.Peruvian shipments increased by 144.5%.

As for the United States, their imports were US $ 80 million (+37% more than in 2019). China and Peru were also the main suppliers, with 41.2% and 24.2% market share, respectively. Peruvian ginger totaled US $ 19 million (123.8% growth).
