The 2023 fig production in Greece has been severely impacted by extreme weather conditions, including summer heat waves and a Mediterranean thunderstorm between September 5 and 7. The excessive rain from the storm, with over 700mm in less than a day, has flooded cultivated areas on Euboea Island, leading to a loss of fresh figs as they open on the trees and swept away figs waiting for sun drying. The extent of the damage is significant and can be classified as a total loss.
