As Greece’s kiwifruit harvest season nears completion, with approximately 200 thousand tons of fruit already gathered, overall yields are strong, though fruit sizes are generally smaller than in 2023. Larger fruit, up to caliber 25, now makes up only 20% of the total yield, with most of the harvest (about 70%) falling in the 30 to 36 size range. This has led many growers to consider size 30 as the new standard for larger fruit. Despite these size challenges, Greek kiwifruit prices are at record highs, ranging from USD 0.90 to 1.20 per kilogram (kg), making it a profitable season for growers. However, market demand is weaker than expected, leading exporters to adopt varied strategies—some holding stock at higher prices for mid-season sales, while others opt for more aggressive pricing to secure quick deals before the slow period between Nov-24 and Jan-25.
