Some palm oil producers in Guatemala are looking to reduce the generation of biogas in oil production and instead transition into the use of natural composting and other sustainable practices. Producers hope that by 2025, 75% of palm oil produced in Guatemala will be certified as sustainable. Guatemala has become a regional benchmark in the industry in terms of sustainability, as it has more than 570 thousand tons of palm oil certified under RSPO standards. The volume comes from 13 extractors and represents almost 60 percent of the total produced.
